Sydney: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that before the upcoming T20 World Cup, Australia has no finisher like former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) or all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Ricky Ponting also believes that if a reliable middle-order or lower-order batsman is found who can do wicketkeeping, then one arrow will kill two.
Australia lacks finishers
“The role of finishers for Australia has always been a matter of concern for this, it needs experts who can play three or four overs and can even score 50 runs,” Ponting (Ricky Ponting) told cricket.com.
He said, ‘Dhoni has done this work in his entire career and he is excellent in it. Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard also fall in this category who can win matches for the country and for the IPL team. They are accustomed to play at this place ‘.
Ricky Ponting is himself a part of the coaching staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup and has also been an assistant coach of the team in the 2019 World Cup.
Josh played as wicketkeeper in team: Ponting
Ricky Ponting wrote, ‘The wicket-keeper batsman is probably the slot from which everyone is sleepy now. The Australian team still has some questions to answer, what does their team look like and I think the biggest one is who will stand behind the stumps wearing gloves? ‘.
Ponting further said, ‘They have tried to fill some blocks. Wade is part of the team, Phillip has played only as a batsman, Alex Carey is getting in and out and has tried to feed him in a few different batting places.
Ponting, 46, wants Josh Inglis to be included as a wicket-keeper batsman in the team, but he has not been included in the current 23-man squad.
