New Delhi: 1983 World Cup winning former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has come out in support of split captaincy in Indian cricket and said that it will reduce the pressure of Indian captain Virat Kohli. Madan Lal said, ‘I think it will be a good option. We are in a better position right now. We are fortunate that we have Rohit Sharma and whenever Virat Kohli feels that he wants to concentrate in one or two formats, then Rohit can come and he has a lot of experience.
India will benefit from Rohit’s captaincy
Madan Lal said, ‘I think India will benefit from this. I have read that Kohli will probably step down from ODI and T20 captaincy as he wants to focus on his batting which is a good plan. I don’t know if it is just a rumor or what, but the plan of split captaincy will benefit India. It depends what Kohli is thinking at the moment. India is doing well as a team and we have seen that in England recently. Will have to see what happens.
Rohit will captain better than Kohli
There were reports that there could be a big change in the leadership of India’s limited overs team after the T20 World Cup and Kohli will take a big decision soon. If Kohli decides to leave the captaincy, then Rohit can become the captain of the ODI and T20 team. The report said that Kohli is contemplating taking this decision to focus on his batting.
BCCI made it clear that Kohli will remain the captain
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal on Monday dismissed these reports. Dhumal had said, ‘This is nonsense and nothing like this is going to happen. Talks are going on only in the media on this. The BCCI has not held any meetings and there has been no discussion on the split captaincy. Kohli will continue to be the captain in all formats.
