New Delhi: When Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MS Dhoni) stepped into international cricket in the year 2004, at that time Mohammad Kaif was at the peak of his career in Team India, but Mohammad Kaif lost his place in Team India within a year or two. After which he could never return again.
This kind of treatment with Dhoni cost Kaif dearly
Mohammad Kaif once while talking to Sportsscreen narrated an incident when he had invited the entire Indian team for dinner at his home. Kaif told that in 2006 in Noida, I had invited all the Indian cricketers to have dinner at my house, but I was busy with big cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, due to which I could not properly match a young player like Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Couldn’t attend.
Kaif’s focus on Ganguly and Sachin
Mohammad Kaif said, ‘I was very nervous when I had invited big cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly for dinner. Along with the then coach Greg Chappell was also present. I thought how would I attend them. All my focus was on hosting big cricketers like Tendulkar and Ganguly.
Dhoni was sitting in a different room
Kaif told that other young players including MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were sitting in separate rooms, but I was busy with the senior players. I could not pay attention to the young players, which Dhoni probably did not like. Kaif laughed and said, ‘Because of this, when Dhoni became the captain in 2007, I could not return to the team, he always reminds me that I did not take good care of him when he came home.’
Dhoni taunts Kaif
Kaif jokingly said that perhaps before Dhoni became the captain then it was too difficult to serve him Biryani properly. Kaif told that then Dhoni taunted him in a joking manner and said that when he comes home, he will not take care of him.
