Team India reached Sydney for Australia series, know why Rohit did not go


Sydney: The Indian men’s cricket team arrived here on Thursday for the tour of Australia starting on 27 November. However, Rohit Sharma is not with the team, who was later included in the Test team. He is in India and will join the team later. Rohit is back home for Rehab after earning the 5th IPL title to Mumbai Indians. Indian players have been allowed to travel with their families.

Players of the Indian team, captained by Virat Kohli, left for Dubai from Dubai on Wednesday night after participating for different teams in the IPL 2020. During this time the team players were wearing PPE kits. Along with the Indian team, Australian players Steve Smith, David Warner, Adam Jampa, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Hazlewood and James Pattinson have also arrived in Sydney from the same flight. The players of both the teams will now be in the mandatory quarantine of 2 weeks.

Rohit will rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. He will not play in ODIs and T20 series but will join the team in the Test series. The BCCI tweeted some photos of the players after arriving in Sydney. Kohli will captain the team in the three-match ODI and T20 series of the same number of matches and the first Test match. After this, at the time of the birth of his first child, he will return home to live with his wife Anushka Sharma.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had earlier said that he was hoping that the players would be approved to travel with their families. However, Kohli has not gone with his wife. According to the report of Australian media, the Australian government has approved only a few people to come with the family. The Indian team will now be in the 14-day quarantine period and during this time arrangements have been made to practice its net.

The players will be allowed to come out of their allotted rooms only while going for training session which is expected to be in the nearby Blacktown International Sports Park. The BCCI had sought approval from Cricket Australia to train players during the quarantine period, which was accepted by the New South Wales government.

The Indian will begin his tour from the first ODI to be held in Sydney on 27 November. The second ODI will be played in Sydney on 29 November and the third ODI in Canberra on 2 December. After this, both teams will play the three-match T20 on 4, 6 and 8 December and then the first Test match in Adelaide from 17 December, which will be a day-night test.

After the first Day Night Test match to be held in Adelaide, the two teams will host the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) from 26 December, the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SGC) from 7 January 2021 and the fourth and final Test at Gabba from 15 January 2021.
