Pant scored a half-century in 106 balls in the second innings and shared a century partnership with Shardul Thakur. “It can be seen how Pant batted responsibly and it helped the player at the other end,” Hussain said in a column for the Daily Mail.

Pant able to bat in more than one style

Nasir Hussain said, ‘Pant showed that he is capable of batting in more than one style. He has done this before. This year in Chennai, he troubled the England bowlers after facing trouble in front of James Anderson and Ben Stokes with the new ball.

Pant batting responsibly

Hossain believes that England captain Joe Root’s ineffective fielding settings helped Pant rotate the strike and work his way up. Hussain said, ‘I think Root set the wrong fielding for Pant because for the first time in this series he was batting responsibly.’

Indian batting very strong

The 53-year-old former player praised India’s lower order for contributing to England’s target of 368 runs. Hussain said, ‘Whenever the Indian XI entered this Test series, the first thought was how big their strength is. His lower order worked on the batting and made a significant contribution for the third time in the series.

Hussain said, ‘For the first time at Lord’s, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah added 89 runs and beat England. Then on the first day of this Test match, Shardul took the team to a fighting position. On the fourth day of the fourth Test, India’s last four batsmen added 150 runs in which Shardul scored a half-century while Bumrah and Umesh Yadav also made some contributions.
