new Delhi. Indian women’s hockey team has shown great performance in international competitions in recent times. Especially the performance of Indian women in the FIH Series Finals and FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers last year has given the team a good success in the world rankings. Indian women are currently ranked 9th. But the team’s goalkeeper Savita says that the team can go even further. He told that the team has set a new target for itself after the round of Kovid-19.
Target to be in top-5 in world ranking
Savita said that the team has set a target for breaking the top-5 barrier in the world rankings during the next two years. He said, we have definitely progressed as a team in the last 3-4 years. During this, hard work has been done on all the grounds of the team. We have worked hard with some of the best coaches all over the world and due to this we have been successful in challenging the top teams in recent times. Thanks to the ongoing support from Hockey India (HOCKEY INDIA) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), we will definitely be able to reach the top-5 of the FIH rankings in the next two years.
Great performance cannot be done overnight
Savita, who hails from Sirsa in Haryana, said, “A good game cannot be shown overnight.” In order to achieve good results, it is important to make deep plans and to ensure that our team moves forward daily. He said, we definitely work hard for our performance. However I would like to give credit to Hockey India for implementing a good training structure. Hockey India has provided us with best coaches, our physical fitness schedule is taken care of and we have to follow a certain diet. National coaching camps and tournaments are being prepared by Hockey India for the last few years, which helps the players to show the best game.
It was difficult to stay away from the game for a long time
During the last few months, the games have been shut down due to the Korana virus epidemic. Due to this, the Indian women’s hockey team has also had to press the reset button and in March this year, the big challenge of getting back to the form that the team was in front of. Savita also considers this matter. The Veteran goalkeeper said, it is very difficult to stay away from the game for a long time. But now we have to resume our sports activities and proceed in a systematic way. I do not doubt that we will reach our peak form again in a short time. Hockey India and Sai are adopting every possible procedure to revive hockey training at the Sai Excellence Center in Bangalore. We just have to keep our dedication, we will get the results ourselves.
