Karachi: Pakistan’s fast bowler and former captain Waseem Akram said that Australia will be a contender for victory in the Test series against India in December-January, but it will be a close match between two teams of equal strength.
The Indian team will take part in a four-match series starting on 17 December after playing a three-match ODI series of three matches on the tour of Australia.
Akram (Waseem Akram) said, ‘I think Australia’s fast bowling is the best in the world. They have Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and other top class bowlers. It will be a close contest but I believe Australia will start the series as the winning contenders’.
Akram said that the series will be very competitive due to India’s strong pace bowling led by the deadly Jasprit Bumrah.
He said, ‘Mohammad Shami, Bumrah, (Navdeep) Saini and other bowlers are good’.
Akram (Waseem Akram) said that when Indian players get into the field, their confidence is worth seeing.
He said, ‘There is a lot of confidence in the Indian team. His body language has changed. As a team, they have confidence in themselves as it used to be when our team came into the fray in the 90s.
He said, ‘Their physical expressions show that they have confidence in themselves and they work hard for this. I would say that, ‘Indian players have become a bit of a crook’.
Indian players will leave for Australia after the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) ends in the UAE. The Indian team won 2–1 in the Test series on the 2018 Australia tour, but Steve Smith and David Warner were not playing in that series. Both the giants were suspended in the case of ball tampering.
Akram (Waseem Akram) admitted that Australian batting has become very strong with the arrival of Smith and Warner. He, however, said that a lot will depend on the pitches there.
He said, ‘After Kukabura’s ball is old, you have to think about stopping the run because it becomes difficult to take wickets’.
