Lahore: Former Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria had made a sensational disclosure that he was a victim of discrimination on the basis of religion in the Pakistani cricket team. Danish Kaneria is only the second Hindu player after his maternal uncle Anil Dalpat to play for Pakistan. Kaneria said it was difficult for him to think of the reason behind Afridi’s discriminatory behavior beyond his religion.
Victims of discrimination in PAK team regarding religion
Danish Kaneria had made a big allegation on former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi that Afridi’s treatment with me was never good. They were against me from the very beginning. He deliberately did not give me many chances in the ODI team. So my career was ruined. Kaneria had said this in an interview given to a news agency. Kaneria said that Afridi gave me very few chances in the ODI team as captain.
Big allegations against Afridi
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had said that Danish Kaneria was insulted by some players in the Pakistani cricket team because he was a Hindu. Because of this, he did not get the necessary credit and some players did not eat with him because of his religion. While accusing Shahid Afridi, Danish Kaneria had said, ‘Afridi was always against me. When we played for a department in domestic cricket or in Pakistan’s one-day team, he used to behave badly. You can understand that if a person is always against you, then you do not see any other reason behind it other than religion.
Was found guilty of spot-fixing in 2009
Kaneria was found guilty of spot-fixing while playing county cricket for Essex in 2009. Since then, he has been pleading with the Pakistan Cricket Board to return to the team. On this he said, ‘I only want help from PCB. If the board can give chance to Mohammad Amir, Salman Butt, then why not me. I also made a mistake, but others did the same thing, but I was thrown away using it as a toilet paper.
inzamam ul haq best captain
Kaneria has played the most cricket under the captaincy of Inzamam-ul-Haq. He said that Inzamam supported me a lot. I also played under the captaincy of Moin Khan and Rashid Latif. He also liked me, but I played very little under Afridi’s captaincy. Kaneria was the second Hindu cricketer to play for Pakistan. Earlier, one of his relatives, Anil Dalpal, played for Pakistan. Kaneria took 261 wickets in 61 Tests at an average of 34.79.
