Karachi: England will visit Pakistan in October next year for a two-match T20 international series for the first time in 16 years.
Pakistan had visited England despite the rising outbreak of Corona virus epidemic, in response to which England has decided to visit it.
These two matches to be held on October 14 and 15 in Karachi will be part of the preparations for the 2021 T20 World Cup.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) both confirmed the tour and said that it would be before the T20 World Cup in India.
The PCB invited England to visit Pakistan in January next year but the ECB was forced to change the tour time due to unavailability of top players and matters related to expenses.
PCB chief executive Wasim Khan said, “I am happy to confirm that England will visit Pakistan in October 2021 to play two T20 internationals”.
He said, ‘This will be England’s first Pakistan tour in 16 years and this will pave the way for the Test and limited overs tour in the 2022-23 season’.
Wasim said, ‘The team with the presence of England’s top players will arrive during the final part of our series against New Zealand. We also hope to tour Australia under the commitment of the future tour schedule of the 2021-22 season, while England will return for the Test and limited overs series in the 2022-23 season ‘.
England team will reach Karachi on 12 October and both teams will leave for India on 16 October for the ICC T20 World Cup.
England last toured Pakistan in 2005 when the team played a series of three Tests and five ODIs.
ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said, “We are very pleased to announce that England’s men’s T20 international team will play in Pakistan in October 2021”.
