Mumbai: Team India’s biggest opener Shikhar Dhawan’s selectors cut the card from the T20 World Cup. The reason given by Chief Selector Chetan Sharma behind not selecting Shikhar Dhawan is surprising everyone. Chetan Sharma said that this has been done to give rest to Dhawan.
This veteran got furious over Dhawan’s ouster
Like Rohit Sharma, former chairman of Team India’s selection committee MSK Prasad has expressed displeasure over the exclusion of Shikhar Dhawan, considered the best opener of Team India, from the T20 World Cup. MSK Prasad believes that Dhawan’s record in ICC tournaments is excellent and he is a player of the big match.
Ishan Kishan has been included in place of Dhawan.
Young batsman Ishan Kishan was included in the team in place of Shikhar Dhawan for the T20 World Cup. Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad said that looking at the form Dhawan was in, it seemed that the veteran opener had a chance to play in the T20 World Cup.
shikhar dhawan big match player
MSK said, ‘India is a balanced team. Looking at the form Shikhar was in, I think he had an opportunity, but if you look at a different side, Kishan can be used as a floater and he deserves that place, but somewhere else. Somewhere I felt that Shikhar could also be kept in the team, because he performs well in big tournaments.
Masterstroke to choose Dhoni as mentor
The 46-year-old MSK served as the chief national selector from 2016 to 2020. MSK is also happy with the decision to include Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the team’s mentor along with head coach Ravi Shastri. MSK said that former captain Dhoni knows everyone in the team. He said, ‘It is a wonderful decision to choose Dhoni as a mentor. His joining will benefit the team management as Mahi treats everyone well.
Right decision to give chance to Ashwin
MSK is also in favor of the spinners selected for the T20 World Cup including Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Chahar, Axar Patel, Varun Chakraborty and Ravindra Jadeja. He specifically pointed out that choosing an experienced Ashwin and in-form Chahar over Yuzvendra Chahal was the right decision.
spin department strong
MSK said, ‘Ashwin’s experience and that too playing in Asian conditions will definitely be beneficial for the team. Ashwin has been in good form for the last few IPLs. He did really well especially during the last IPL in Dubai. With another leg of the IPL in Dubai just ahead of the T20 World Cup will certainly help, his experience will give a fillip to the spin department.
Sad to know about Chahal
MSK has played 6 Tests and 17 ODIs for India. MSK said about Chahal, “He will be really disappointed, as he has been a T20 specialist, but if you compare his form with Chahar in the last phase of the IPL, maybe Chahal proved to be more expensive and Chahar was the most expensive. He played a key role in helping Mumbai Indians win two consecutive IPLs.
