New Delhi: Indian captain Virat Kohli on Thursday announced to leave the captaincy of Team India’s T20 format. After the T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli will leave the captaincy of this format and focus only on his batting. After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma is set to become the new T20 captain. An Indian legend is very angry after Virat Kohli’s announcement of leaving India’s T20 captaincy.
This veteran is angry with Kohli leaving the captaincy
Former India opener and commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed displeasure over Virat Kohli’s decision to quit the captaincy. According to him, Virat Kohli was not the right solution to do this. On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that leaving the captaincy of just one format is not going to reduce the workload of Virat Kohli. Chopra asked whether Virat Kohli will also give up the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL.
Questions raised on Kohli’s decision
Aakash Chopra says that Virat Kohli’s decision to step down from T20 captaincy after T20 World Cup 2021 may not be a smart decision in the long run. This decision of Kohli has surprised everyone. Aakash Chopra said, ‘Virat Kohli wants to continue captaincy in Test and ODI matches. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses from here.
Not much difference between T20 and ODI team
Aakash Chopra said, ‘See, there is an ODI World Cup in 2023. There is not much difference between T20 and ODI team, so you often give Test captaincy to one player. Give the captaincy of T20I and ODI to someone else. You put a little more mind into it, because how much T20I cricket does India actually play in a year?’
Chopra said, ‘He is captaining the World Cup and what is left are only 8-10 matches. So, will he continue to captain RCB from next year onwards, as that is also the shortest format? Because from workload point of view, except one format, that too may not be a wise solution except in the shortest format.’
