new Delhi: Ajinkya Rahane remains the vice-captain of India’s team for the Australia Test, but Irfan Pathan feels that much more experienced Rohit Sharma should lead the team in the absence of Virat Kohli. Which will not be available after playing in the opening match of the series.
Kohli has been granted paternity leave after the first Test and Pathan said that this would greatly impact the team which won the historic series led by him two seasons ago.
Pathan (Irfan Pathan) said, ‘Virat Kohli’s absence will have a great impact on the team but you should respect his decision. We should accept life outside cricket, family is very important.
He said, ‘It will definitely make a big difference on the field and it will be very difficult for anyone to take their place. The way they have performed for so many years and that too under all circumstances.
Pathan (Irfan Pathan) has a personal opinion that Rohit should captain the team in the absence of Kohli, although Rahane is currently the vice-captain.
Rohit has led the Indian team to many Indian Premier League titles while also leading India to two big trophies in the Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup.
He said, ‘There is nothing against Rahane but Rohit should captain. He is a great captain and he has proved and he also has the necessary experience ‘.
Pathan said, ‘His role as an opener will also be important. He is the kind of player you want to feed in Australia. I remember he was new in the ODI series in 2008 but he did very well on the Australian pitches. He will be desperate to perform brilliantly after the injury.
Pathan (Irfan Pathan) said, ‘Nothing will be more dangerous than Rohit Sharma hungry (for scoring runs) for the opposition team. Playing on foreign soil is always a tough challenge, but when Rohit is in form, the circumstances do not matter.
He said, ‘As an opener he can play the same role that Sehwag played in the 2004 series and you can win the match. Cheteshwar Pujara’s role becomes more important at number three as he will be instrumental in connecting everyone. In the absence of Kohli, Rahane will be right for me at number four ‘.
Pujara was the ‘Man of the Series’ in the previous series in Australia.
