This veteran’s befitting reply to critics
Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has said that Indian captain Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri have been great supporters and promoters of Test cricket in recent times. He also said that Kohli has excelled in his desire to play Test cricket. Taylor said, “Shastri and Kohli are great supporters and promoters of Test cricket in recent times. I think Kohli has been excellent in this regard and really wants to play Test cricket, prioritizing the game.
expressed this concern
Taylor expressed concern over how long Test cricket will remain a priority in the future. He said, ‘The concern is how long this will continue. There is no doubt that as we get older and a new generation comes in, the love for Test cricket that people like me love may diminish and this is a matter of concern for our older generation.
Test not canceled due to IPL
The 56-year-old former player hoped that the decision to cancel the fifth and final Test between England and India in Manchester was not made to prioritize the second leg of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said, ‘I don’t think anyone will complain of any kind against players who don’t want to play the game when they have genuine concern about corona infection. I think now we want to see some continuity. Being out of a Test match is a big deal for the game of cricket.
Taylor said, ‘When players take a stand against it, we all understand. We understand that health comes first. But people have to take care of the health of the game. It puts pressure especially on the game of Test cricket and then you have the game of T20, there is a home series coming up in which all those players want to play.
