Tokyo Olympics: Indian women’s hockey team creates history by making it to the quarter-finals of the Olympics for the first time


Tokyo: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team created history in the Tokyo Olympics. For the first time, the Indian women’s team has made it to the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics.

Indian women’s team reached the quarter finals

The Indian women’s hockey team had to first defeat South Africa in their last Pool-A match to reach the quarter-finals, and then if the women of Great Britain. Had the hockey team defeated Ireland, India would have secured a place in the quarter-finals. Everything happened for the Indian team, first they defeated South Africa and then Great Britain defeated Ireland.

This was India’s second win in five matches at the Olympics. Let us tell that four teams from each group have to go to the knockouts. India have six points from five matches and their goal difference is -7. The Netherlands, Germany and Britain had already reached the knockouts from this group. There was one place left, for which there was a tussle between India and Ireland.

Indian women’s hockey team beat South Africa

Indian Women’s Hockey Team defeated South Africa 4-3 in their last match of Pool-A. Vandana Katariya scored 3 goals for India while Neha Goyal scored 1 goal. Taryn Glasby, captain Erin Hunter and Marijne Marais scored for South Africa.

Great Britain defeated Ireland

The Great Britain women’s hockey team defeated Ireland 2-0 in a Pool A match in the group stage of the Tokyo Olympics. For Great Britain, Susannah Townsend scored in the second quarter in the 17th minute to give the team the lead. Hannah Martin then scored in the 32nd minute to make the score 2-0. Ireland’s team could not level or get the lead till the end and had to face defeat.

After this defeat, Ireland have three points from five matches with one win and four losses and are fifth in the points table.
