Twitter reacts as Jhulan Goswami bids farewell to international cricket

The Indian cricket fraternity took to social media to bid farewell to Indian women pacer Jhulan Goswami after the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s, which was her last international match. Several cricketers and administration figures took to Twitter on Saturday to bid Jhulan a farewell and congratulate him on an illustrious career.

The women of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to bid farewell to the legendary bowler.

BCCI Women tweeted, “Records a legacy to be proud of @Jhulanji10 #TeamIndia.”

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly also bid farewell to the legendary fast bowler, saying that she will be a role model for women players in the years to come.

Ganguly tweeted, “A wonderful career.. it ended with a win.. and she walked off with a good series personally.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah thanked the bowler for inspiring the next generation of cricketers and serving Indian cricket for over two decades with unmatched dedication and determination.

“Greatest & most successful fast bowler in women’s cricket retires from international cricket after two decades of unmatched dedication & determination towards the game. Congratulations @JhulanG10 for a wonderful career with #TeamIndia. Next Generation Thank you for inspiring the cricketers.” Shah tweeted.

A lot of Indian cricketers also congratulated Jhulan for his illustrious career and wished him all the best for the next phase of his life.

Former Indian batsman Mithali Raj said that Jhulan’s long life as a fast bowler is beyond belief.

“Her longevity as a fast bowler in women’s cricket is beyond belief. We have played together since our U-19 days and @JhulanG10’s commitment to the game and her eternal optimism is a lesson for all. Indian Jersey will miss you. Best wishes in your future endeavours, Jhulu,” tweeted Mithali.

Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya bid farewell to the veteran, tweeting, “Congratulations on a wonderful career @Jhulanji10 with all your achievements such an inspiration to the entire nation. Wishing you a happy retirement.”

Indian opener KL Rahul said that Jhulan “is one of the greatest players the game has ever played.”


He tweeted, “One of the greatest ever to have played the game. Your love, passion and dedication to the game is an inspiration to many. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Jhulan G10.”

Virat Kohli wrote on Twitter: A great servant of Indian cricket. Congratulations on an excellent career, inspiring many women to take up the sport. Your patience and aggression always stood out. I wish you the very best. @Jhulan G10.”

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “Thank you for everything you have done for Indian cricket. Many congratulations on a wonderful career @Jhulanji10.”

Goswami finished with 44 wickets in 12 Tests, 255 wickets in 204 ODIs and 56 wickets in 68 T20Is.

Four wickets from Renuka Singh, two from Rajeshwari Gaikwad and an all-round effort from the Women in Blue helped India bid a series-winning farewell to Jhulan Goswami as he steered the hosts to 153 in the third ODI against England at Lord’s ground on Saturday.
