Virat’s Dhoom, Dhoni and Rohit are also competing at the ICC Player of the Decade Awards

Dubai: India’s charismatic captain Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin were named as the best male player of the decade by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Indian captain was named in all five men’s categories for his outstanding performance in the last 10 years.

Kohli and veteran off-spinner Ashwin are among the seven players nominated for this prestigious award.

Apart from Kohli and Ashwin, Joe Root (England), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Steve Smith (Australia), AB de Villiers (South Africa) and Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) are the other players in the race for the award.

Apart from Kohli, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and run machine Rohit Sharma are also among the contenders in the category of best ODI player of the decade. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Mitchell Starc (Australia), de Villiers and Sangakkara have also been regularized for this award.

Kohli and Rohit have also been named in the best T20 international male player of the decade category. Other contenders in this category are Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Aaron Finch (Australia), Malinga and Chris Gayle (West Indies).

Kohli has also been nominated for the best male Test player of the decade and the ICC’s Cricket Bhavana Award of the decade.

Apart from Kohli, Dhoni is also involved in the ICC Cricket Bhavana Award race of the decade.

Kohli, who has scored more than 50 runs in all formats, has already scored 70 international centuries and only Ricky Ponting (71) and Sachin Tendulkar (100) are ahead of him.

He is also third in the list of most run-scorers with 21,444 runs. Only Ponting (27,483) and Tendulkar (34,357) have scored more runs than them.

In the last decade, Kohli has scored more than 7000 runs in Test cricket while in ODI cricket he has more than 11000 runs and more than 2600 runs in T20.

The final winner will be decided on the basis of votes received by the players.

Best female player of the decade: Alice Parry (Australia), Meg Lanning (Australia), Suzy Bates (New Zealand), Stephanie Taylor (West Indies), Mithali Raj (India) and Sarah Taylor (England).

Best Male ODI Player of the Decade: Virat Kohli (India), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Mitchell Starc (Australia), AB de Villiers (South Africa), Rohit Sharma (India), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (India), and Kumara Sangakkara (Sri Lanka).

Best Male Test Player of the Decade: Virat Kohli (India), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Steve Smith (Australia), James Anderson (England), Rangana Herath (Sri Lanka) and Yasir Shah (Pakistan).

Best T20 Male Player of the Decade: Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Virat Kohli (India), Imran Tahir (South Africa), Aaron Finch (Australia), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Chris Gayle (West Indies) and Rohit Sharma (India).

ICC’s Decade of Cricket Spirit Award: Virat Kohli (India), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Brandon McCullum (New Zealand), Misbah-ul-Haq (Pakistan), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (India), Anya Shrubsole (England), Katherine Brunt (England), Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka). And Daniel Vettori (New Zealand).
