New Delhi: The players of the Indian team nowadays pay as much attention to their game as much as they do on their fitness. Team India captain Virat Kohli has brought such a trend of fitness in cricket that now all players take full care of their sport as well as fitness. But in the meantime, Virender Sehwag, the former opening batsman of Team India, has been unhappy with the BCCI’s fitness test. Sehwag said that I do not accept these tests.
‘Sachin, Laxman is never close’
Sehwag (Virender Sehwag) citing the example of legendary batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman said that if these players had a fitness test, they would never have made it to the team. Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz, ‘R Ashwin and Varun Chakraborty are probably not in the team because they did not pass the Yo-Yo test. But I do not believe these things. If this was the first account of selection, then Sachin, Laxman and Ganguly would never have passed.
Sehwag (Virender Sehwag) said, ‘I did not see these three legendary players passing in the beep test in front of me. In the beep test, 12.5 scores were required to be scored, but Sachin, Ganguly and Laxman used to bring 10 or 11 scores. But the skills of these players were very good.
‘Skill is more important’
Sehwag believes that skill is more important than fitness. He said, ‘If your team is fit and you are losing matches and there is a lack of skills in the players then that is a wrong thing. I think there should be an opportunity for such players whose bowling or batting is good. Because he will achieve success on difficult occasions. And you can improve the fitness of the player gradually.
Let me tell you that Varun Chakraborty was selected in the Indian team due to his great performance in the IPL. But he failed two consecutive fitness tests after which he was dropped from the series against England. Captain Virat Kohli has already said this clearly that there will be no laxity with fitness and the player who will be fit will play in the team.
