West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin on Monday announced her retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. The announcement came after Barbados’ nine-wicket loss against Australia in the Commonwealth Games. Dottin posted a lengthy statement on Twitter announcing his retirement from international cricket.
Dottin wrote on Twitter: “Please accept this letter as my formal retirement from the Senior Women’s West Indies team with effect from 1st August 2022. This announcement has come with much contemplation as cricket has always been my passion. However, when Fire burns, one has to take the time to re-evaluate one’s commitment. There have been many hurdles during my cricket career which I have had to overcome, however, the current environment and the team environment is my ability to thrive and rule. Not suited to capacity. Josh.”
“With much sadness but without regret, I realized that I am no longer able to adhere to the team culture and team environment as it has reduced my ability to excel,” he said.

The 31-year-old has played 146 ODIs and 126 T20Is for West Indies. She made her debut in 2008 and is known as one of the most destructive players to have played the game.
She scored 3,727 runs and 2,697 runs in ODIs and T20Is and with the ball, she went on to take 72 (ODI) and 62 (T20I) wickets.
“I appreciate the opportunities I have been given and have considered my decision over time. It is an honor to play for the West Indies and represent the region. During my 14 years of play, I have played at my best. Trained and developed physically, mentally and emotionally as a sportsperson,” read his statement.
“It is the combination of this development that has helped me reflect on what is really important to me. With much sadness but without regret, I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the team culture and the team environment. I am not capable because it has reduced my ability to excel,” she said.
