New Delhi: The BCCI general body on Saturday approved the resumption of the IPL in the UAE in September and sought a month’s time from the ICC to take a final decision on the ICC T20 World Cup to assess the state of the corona epidemic in India. A special meeting of the general assembly was held online which lasted for 50 minutes. In this, the members unanimously approved both the agendas.
There will be competition in September-October
A senior state association member present in the meeting said, ‘SGM has approved to hold the remaining matches of IPL in September-October. Its dates will be announced later. September is the monsoon time in India. Apart from this, having 3 grounds in the UAE makes it easier as we have seen in 2020. The IPL is expected between September 18 and October 10.
Not yet decided on T20 WC
The official said that all the members want the T20 World Cup to be held in India at the end of October but no decision can be taken on it right now. He said, ‘BCCI Representative Chairman Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah will ask for time till July 1, after which another SGM will be convened to decide whether the T20 World Cup will be held in India or not. At this time, the health situation in the country is not such that we can take the final decision.

Time required for decision on T20 WC
In a brief statement, the BCCI said that all the members have agreed to reinstate the IPL in the UAE. Secretary Jai Shah said in a statement, ‘The BCCI announced on Saturday that the rest of the matches of the IPL 2021 season should be held in the UAE as there is a monsoon season in India in September-October. The BCCI also authorized the officials in SGM to ask the ICC for a time limit so that a decision can be taken on the T20 World Cup 2021.
ICC wants tax exemption
A senior member of a state association said that there is also a matter of tax exemption on which the matter is going on. He said, ‘ICC wants tax exemption but we have to follow the guidelines of the government. All sides will benefit from the T20 World Cup in India, but in May you cannot talk about the health conditions of October. We need some time.
England players will be able to play IPL?
The IPL was bound to be in the UAE. Officials told the general assembly about the availability of players. The official said, “The attitude of the BCCI is clear that despite the absence of England players due to the series against Pakistan, no board will be requested to allow players to play the IPL.” Right now the priority is to complete the remaining 31 matches of the IPL. The remaining issues will be resolved.
There will be talk on T20 WC in June
A state association member raised the issue of compensation to domestic cricketers, but was told that this is not the right forum as SGM only talks on the agenda. BACCI President Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jai Shah and Vice President Rajiv Shukla will travel to Dubai on June 1 to attend the ICC Board meeting which will also discuss the T20 World Cup to be held in India.
