New Delhi: The ‘God’ of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, played his debut match against Pakistan in Karachi on 15 November 1989. At that time Sachin was only 16 years old. However, in the cricket world, Sachin Tendulkar had earned a name in school time itself. This was the reason why he got a chance to play in the national team so early. At that time, the Pakistani team had a dangerous pace battery like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Sachin faced Wasim Akram
In a news channel’s cricket talk show, Wasim Akram had told how he first encountered Sachin Tendulkar. Of course, Sachin Tendulkar and Wasim Akram have great respect for each other in the cricket world, but in the very first meeting, Wasim Akram sledged Sachin Tendulkar during the match.
‘Have you brought mom’s permission?’
Actually, on meeting Sachin Tendulkar for the first time, Wasim Akram felt that this boy looks like 14 years old. Wasim Akram said, ‘We had read about Sachin that the new sensation of cricket is coming to Pakistan and his age is only 16 years. When he came out to bat, I thought it was only 14 years old. Then I told him, ‘Have you come to play cricket after asking your mother?’ However, as a great batsman today, Wasim Akram has a lot of respect for Sachin and he admitted that it was not easy at all to bowl to Sachin.
Terrible was Sachin’s debut
Let us tell you that Sachin had said during an interview that in 1989 I thought of quitting cricket after the first Test innings of my career against Pakistan. Sachin had said that at that time I thought that the first Test innings of my life in Karachi would probably be the last innings. Waqar Younis was bowling from one side and Wasim Akram from the other side. I had no idea and both of them were also getting the ball to reverse swing. I had no plan in front of such an attack.
