Dravid ready to become head coach

It is already certain that the current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Rahul Dravid is ready to take over the responsibility of this post which can be changed only after some miracle happens. Dravid has already informally agreed after discussions with the top BCCI officials in Dubai on the sidelines of the IPL final.

Advertisement required under the rule

However, the BCCI needs to constitute a Cricket Advisory Committee and if it goes according to the constitution, they will have to make a formal recommendation to the Apex Council of the BCCI. The last date to apply for all the posts is 26 October.

Tenure will be for next 2 years

This is the reason why BCCI has just released advertisement for batting, bowling and fielding coaches with the post of head coach for a tenure of 2 years till the ODI World Cup 2023. The tenure of Ravi Shastri along with bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar will come to an end when India’s T20 World Cup mission is over.

Who will become the batting coach?

Batting coach Vikram Rathod is expected to extend his tenure if he applies, though he has no performances to show during his 2-year tenure from 2019 till now. India-A and U-19 coach Paras Mhambrey is expected to be roped in for the post of bowling coach, who is a Dravid’s special.

What is the qualification of Head Coach?

For the post of head coach, one must have played 30 Tests or 50 ODIs with experience of 2 years coaching for national team or 3 years coaching for IPL team. He will lead a team of support staff of 14 to 16 people.

What will be the responsibility of the coach?

According to the advertisement, “The successful candidate will be responsible for building a world class Indian cricket team, which will achieve consistent success in all conditions and formats and inspire current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game.”

Head coach’s job is not easy

The Head Coach will be responsible for the review and enforcement of the disciplinary code of the Indian men’s team. At the same time, he will also work with the NCA chief, whenever possible, to develop a plan to hone the skills of those players who are not part of the national team.

Support staff will also be selected

Other support staff will need 10 Tests or 25 ODIs or 3 years of experience working with IPL or A teams. The BCCI is also looking for a candidate for the post of head of ‘Sport Science and Medicine’ in the NCA after the recent exit of Ashish Kaushik.
