New Delhi: Due to the corona virus epidemic in Japan, there is a lot of opposition in the host country regarding the Tokyo Olympics. Despite this, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has said that these games will be organized at their own time.
‘Delay of one year’
IOC President Thomas Bak said that the Olympic event postponed for one year in 2020 due to unprecedented health crisis will send a message that “there is still light at the end of the tunnel (a ray of hope after hard work)”. Bak made this statement during his address to the 47th Congress of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) organized online.

‘Olympic countdown begins’
Thomas Bach said, ‘There is very little time left in the start of Tokyo (Olympics). His countdown has started. During this difficult time, we need to send a strong message of militancy, unity in diversity. Tokyo will show us the light at the end of the tunnel. ‘
‘Accept the challenge’
Prior to Bak’s remarks, IOC Vice President John Coats also said that the Games would be held in Tokyo even after the Emergency was imposed in the city due to the epidemic. This stance of the IOC accepts the challenges of hosting sports in a world affected by Corona.
Protests are taking place in Japan
Most citizens of Japan are not in favor of hosting the Games, as it is likely to put further pressure on the country’s medical infrastructure in times of epidemics, but the IOC is adamant on its decision. Bak has expressed confidence that the IOC will be able to organize the Games postponed last year with the local organizers.
‘Safety is most important’
Bak said, ‘Safety is the top priority for all of us. We, along with our colleagues from Japan, must ensure that our athletes come together and compete in a safe environment. More than 70 percent of athletes and officials have already been vaccinated and this number will increase over time. We have also received proposals from three vaccine producers for vaccination. The IOC chief said that everything has to be sacrificed to fulfill the Olympic dreams.
