London: New Zealand fast bowler Neil Wagner believes that the World Test Championship final against India is like a World Cup final for him as he has never played limited overs cricket for his country.
World Test Championship will be like World Cup: Wagner
According to ESPNcricinfo, Neil Wagner said, ‘Yes, it is like a World Cup final for me. The biggest disappointment in my career is that I have never been able to play limited overs cricket for New Zealand and have never made it to the T20 or ODI team.
The 35-year-old player said, “Now I have a chance and I don’t think such an opportunity will come again.” For me, now I have to focus my attention and energy on Test cricket and playing in the final of the World Test Championship is like a World Cup for me ‘.
In March, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also said something similar. According to him, the WTC final will be like a World Cup final for many players.
New Zealand are currently in England and are preparing for a two-Test series against the hosts, but Neil Wagner is eyeing the WTC final.
He said, ‘I know this is the first final and not much history is attached to it but it is a very big beginning. India is one of the best teams in the world right now and playing a Test match against them is a chance to test themselves at the top level. It will be really exciting, but I want to take it like another Test match. It will be a really special occasion ‘.
The battle will start from 8 June
The World Test Championship final against New Zealand will be played at Southampton on 18 June, while the series against England will begin in Nottingham from 4 August. The second Test will be played at Lodgers on 12 to 16 August, the third at Leeds on 25 to 29 August, the fourth at the Oval on 2 to 6 September and the fifth at Manchester from 10 to 14 September.
