Heat-up between Zaheer Khan and Pietersen

During the second Test match played between India and England in Nottingham in July 2007, there was a heated exchange between Team India’s fast bowler Zaheer Khan and English cricketer Kevin Pietersen.

Zaheer got angry at Pietersen’s action

In this Test match, India had taken a 266-run lead over the hosts after bowling England out for 198 in the first innings. Zaheer Khan came to bat after the wicket of Indian batsman VVS Laxman fell. When Zaheer Khan was batting, he saw some jelly beans (toffee) lying on the crease, which he immediately removed from there. Pietersen was dropping toffees at the crease to divert the attention of the Indian batsmen.

But, after playing the next ball, he again saw many more jelly beans lying on the pitch. After this Zaheer Khan got angry and asked Kevin Pietersen, who was fielding in the slips, not to do so, but instead of admitting his mistake, Pietersen clashed with Zaheer Khan. In such a situation, Zaheer Khan also angrily showed the bat to kill England cricketer Kevin Pietersen. Seeing the increasing heat between the two, the umpires tried to calm the matter. After the match, the then captain of the England team, Michael Vaughan, apologized for the jelly-beans controversy.
