Airtel (Airtel) beating Jio again improves number 1, Vodafone Idea’s condition in adding new users

By the end of January 2021, the number of active wireless connections (mobiles) in India had risen to 97.8 million. At the same time, the total number of wireless subscribers had increased to about 118.4 million. In December 2020, this number was around 117.4 crores. The latest Telecom Report of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) says that this is a total increase of 0.82 per cent in the number of Indian telephone subscribers. Of this, the number of urban subscribers, which stood at 647. 91 million in December 2020, increased to 653.29 million (about 65 crore) by the end of January. At the same time, 525.92 million subscribers in rural areas in December 2020 increased to 530.19 million (about 53 crores) by the end of January 2021. Airtel has won the game here.

Airtel added 58 lakh new subscribers in January 2021, while Jio managed to add only 19 lakh subscribers. Let it be said that even before this, Airtel has beaten Jio in the matter of adding new customers. Vi (Vodafone Idea) gets 1.7 million new subscribers. BSNL, a telecom company under the government, managed to add 8 lakh new customers.

However, Jio has been the winner in terms of wireless (broadband) internet. The TRAI report says that Jio accounted for 35.30 per cent in the case of wireless subscribers. At the same time, Airtel stood second with 29.62 percent till the end of January. Vodafone Idea stood at number three with 24.58 percent share and BSNL at number four with 10.21 percent share.

In November 2020, I TRAI reported that Airtel had added more subscribers (mobiles) than Jio at the end of August 2020. While Airtel added 28.99 lakh subscribers, Jio added 18.64 lakh new subscribers. Vi (Vodafone Idea) suffered heavy losses and the company had lost 12.28 lakh subscribers by that time.

In the same report of TRAI, MNP (mobile number portability) is also mentioned. There has also been a huge increase in the number of customers porting their mobile numbers at the beginning of the year. In January 2021, 76.3 lakh people used this service.
