Amazon launches two new Fire TV Stick, price starts at Rs 2,999

Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen) and Fire TV Stick Lite have been launched by the company. The new Fire TV Stick variant can be streaming at full-HD resolution and runs on the redesigned user interface of the Amazon Fire TV OS. The new Firestick has been launched four years after the release of Amazon Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen) and will be available for sale in India from October 15. It is currently available for pre-order.

Amazon Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen) price in India, specifications and features

The Fire TV Stick (third generation) design has not been changed and uses an HDMI port to connect to a television or monitor like the earlier models. It is priced at Rs 3,999 in India. A wall adapter has been provided to power the stick. It comes with a remote to operate, which is very similar to a remote remote. Along with the standard controls, this time the power and volume buttons have also been included in the new remote.

The major difference between the new stick and the old stick is in the hardware. The new stick comes with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, which is claimed to be 50 percent more powerful than the Fire TV Stick (second generation). Apart from this, the interface of Fire TV OS has also been changed. Now the new OS incorporates user profiles and brings better search and content discovery and Amazon Alexa voice assistant than before. 8 GB internal storage is available for apps and app data.

Streaming is also supported at full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution, and interestingly, Amazon states that HDR streaming is also available in HDR 10+ format. Although it is unclear how this will work, as HDR requires 4K at the hardware level, support for the format at the software level is an interesting point. Dolby Atmos audio is also supported on Fire TV Stick (3rd Gen).

In addition to the third generation stick, Amazon has also launched the Amazon Fire TV Stick Light, which costs Rs 2,999. It looks similar to the Fire TV Stick (third generation) and has similar specifications and features. It includes support for streaming at 60fps to full-HD resolution, software-level support for HDR format, 8GB of internal storage and redesigned user interface with Alexa and other new features.

The main difference between the two devices is a separate remote found on the Light model. It does not have the ability to control the television and Dolby audio is only available via HDMI pass-through.
