During this announcement, Ambani said that policy steps need to be taken to expedite the early rollout of 5G in the country. He said, “I assure you that Jio will carry forward the 5G revolution in India in the second half of 2021.”
Let me tell you, Jio has been working on 5G for a long time. Nationwide LTE-exclusive coverage is helping the Mumbai-based telecom company transition to Next Generation’s cellular service in a short time.
Jio is working with companies like Samsung and Qualcomm to make the 5G service a reality. Ambani announced at the 43rd annual general meeting of Reliance Industries in July that Jio will start testing 5G networks as soon as spectrum is available in the country.
At Qualcomm’s 5G Summit, Jio shared information about its 5G plan, which will be supported by Qualcomm. Jio announced that they have developed a fully indigenous 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) product, which will help test the Next Generation Network.
Apart from the 5G plan, Jio is currently working with Google to launch its new entry-level 4G Android smartphone. There is speculation about this new model that it can be introduced in the first quarter of next year, which will be priced around Rs 4,000.
During the India Mobile Congress, Ambani in his speech urged the government to take policy steps to bring affordable smartphones for the disadvantaged who are still on the 2G network.
