According to the Monthly Subscriber Report of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the total telecom subscriber base in India was 116 crores as of June 2020, which has increased to 116.4 crores by July 2020. It shows a monthly growth rate of 0.30 percent.
According to the report, Reliance Jio is leading the wireless subscribers market share with a total subscriber base of 40,08,03,819.
As of 31 July 2020, private access service providers such as Jio, Airtel and Vi had 89.33 per cent market share of wireless subscribers, while the two PSU access service providers such as BSNL and MTNL had a market share of just 10.67 per cent. Kolkata Telecom Circle has registered a growth of 2.03 percent in the wireless subscriber base till July.
The report states that in July 2020, more than 75 lakh requests for mobile number portability (MNP) have been received.
The TRAI report has also seen that the number of broadband subscribers increased to 70.5 million in June from 69.8 million in June. The top 5 service providers (Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, BSNL, and Atria Convergence) have achieved 98.91 percent market share of total broadband subscribers as of the end of July.
