The latest report of TRAI ending on 31 August revealed that the total number of wireless subscribers at the end of July was 114.418 crore, which has increased to 114.792 crore at the end of August, therefore, a 0.33 percent churn. Growth rate has been recorded. The number of subscribers of Reliance Jio has come down in August compared to the previous month, the number was 35.54 lakhs last month, but this month it has reached 18.64 lakhs.
Compared to the month of July, Airtel has also recorded a decline in the number of subscribers. In July this number was 32.60 lakhs, while in August it has come down to 28.99 lakhs. However, the figure is better than Jio’s August performance. In August, Airtel added 10.35 lakh more subscribers than Jio.
Vi (Vodafone Idea) has lost 12.28 lakh subscribers, which is significantly lower than the July loss of 37.26 lakh subscribers. BSNL has gained 2.14 lakh subscribers in the month of August. Among wireless subscribers, Airtel has a monthly growth rate of 0.91 percent, while Jio lagged behind with a growth rate of 0.47 percent. According to TRAI, the wireless subscriber base in Kolkata and Himachal Pradesh regions increased by 1.13 percent in August.
Talking about broadband, the TRAI report revealed that BSNL had 78.5 lakh subscribers as of the end of August. Bharti Airtel is second in this list with 23.3 lakh subscribers. Atria Convergence has 1.7 million subscribers and Jio has 12.5 million. In the wireless broadband category, Jio tops the list with 40267 million subscribers, while Airtel is second with 15.465 crore subscribers and Vi (Vodafone Idea) is at number three with 11.991 million subscribers. BSNL is at number four with 159 lakh subscribers.
