The ET report quoted sources as saying that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) may announce its alleged ‘affordable’ laptop JioBook and 5G smartphone at AGM. The company is developing this smartphone in association with Google and according to the report, it will be brought to the R&D (research and development) stage between May and June. Apart from these two devices, we may hear many more announcements in AGM 2021, one of which could be about the 5G network roll-out. Reports and rumors say that the company may rollout its 5G service in the second half of this year. Somewhere the company can start the network service with its own developed 5G smartphone.
The cheapest 5G smartphone in India at the moment is Realme Narzo 30 Pro, which costs Rs 16,999. Reliance is known for revolution, so it would not be surprising if the company launches its smartphone at a very aggressive price. At the same time, talking about JioBook, the company’s budget laptop was leaked with specifications earlier this month. The new laptop is expected to work on Android-based custom skin, which will be named JioOS. It can come with Jio apps. JioBook has also been said to have 4G LTE support. The prototype of the laptop features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and a Snapdragon X12 4G modem with a 1,366×768 pixel resolution display. The JioBook can be brought in at least 2GB LPDDR4x RAM and 32GB eMMC storage variants and a model can be equipped with 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage.
