Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s website hacked

The Twitter account of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal website was hacked and the tweet urged people to donate cryptocurrencies. This was confirmed by Twitter and all tweets posted as a result of the hack were removed. However, screenshots are now being shared on Twitter and some people claim that these tweets were made from PM Modi’s account. However, the PM’s account, which has 61.8 million followers, was not affected. The tweet was posted from a Twitter account used by PM Modi’s official website which has only 2.5 million followers.

In a tweet from the hacked account (now deleted) people were asked to donate to the PM National Relief Fund for COVID 19 as well as include an address to donate bitcoins. This is similar to a recent Twitter hack, where several global leaders’ accounts were hacked to ask for bitcoins. Twitter has confirmed with Gadgets 360 that the account was hacked and they have taken steps to secure this account. It has also been said that no other account has been affected.

A similar incident has happened a while ago, where hackers gained access to the accounts of many world leaders. Former US President Barack Obama, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Amazon CEO Zef Bezos, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and media tycoon Mike Bloomberg hacked accounts of brands such as Apple and Uber.

All these accounts sent tweets asking people to donate money to bitcoins. Around 130 accounts were targeted by hackers in the incident. It was later found that a 17-year-old Florida boy was the mastermind of hacking celebrity accounts on Twitter.

According to the screenshot of the hacked tweets going viral, the account was hacked by a group named John Wick, which is reported to have also hacked Paytm Mall. However, the responsibility of Paytm Mall Hack was not claimed in the tweet.
