American social media firm Website showed Vinay Prakash as the new Grievance Officer on Sunday. It also detailed their contact details and procedures for users to report potential violations of the terms and conditions of the site. On Thursday, Twitter told an Indian court that it would appoint an interim complaints officer to comply with the new rules. It had also said that it planned to make the final appointment for the appointment in eight weeks.
The IT rules, which went into effect at the end of May, are intended to regulate content on social media and allow firms to act more quickly on legal requests to remove posts and share details on originators of messages. But WhatsApp and Twitter’s regulatory scrutiny, along with others such as Amazon, has intensified friction between US tech firms and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and disturbed the business environment in a key growth market.
For a long time, there was a tussle between the Indian government and social media giant Twitter to regulate the content published on social media. The new IT rules were implemented by the Government of India with effect from the month of May. Now finally Twitter has also appointed a Grievance Officer to comply with the new rules.
