Vivo is going to bring color changing smartphone

Vivo is developing a phone that will have a color-changing back panel. The company revealed this through a teaser video posted on Weibo. The phone uses an electrochromic glass, which will replace the hue on the panel. In January, OnePlus, a sub-brand of Veevo’s parent company BBK Electronics, showcased the OnePlus Concept One phone with similar electrochromic glass, due to which the rear camera setup of the phone was hidden inside the glass. However, the video teaser shows that the effect of changing the color is seen on the entire rear panel of the Vivo phone.

A video has been shared in Weibo post viewed by Android Authority, showing the design of the phone. Changing the color of the phone is also shown in it. Pressing a side button in the phone changes the color of the back panel of the phone and as we said, for this the company has used electrochromic technology on its back panel. It varies from Pearl White to Dark Blue.

Vivo seems to have taken inspiration from the OnePlus Concept One for its new smartphone, which was shown at CES 2020 in Las Vegas earlier this year. The OnePlus phone used electrochromic glass on the camera setup, which used to hide the camera sensor behind.

The camera module of the new phone has not been revealed in the video posted by Vivo. However, another video posted on Weibo by a tipster suggests that it can be given a triple rear camera setup with dual LED flash.

Vivo has not given any clarity on whether the new phone is just a concept and is designed for testing purposes. Nevertheless, given the stiff competition in the market, one can expect the company to introduce such technology for a new experience in the near future.
