WhatsApp’s ‘Expiring Media’ feature will work like this

WhatsApp beta for Android has a glimpse of the new feature, which will be called ‘Expiring Media’. As the name implies, this feature will make the media files sent to the users such as images, videos and GIFs disappear after a single view. Initially, information about this feature was obtained through WhatsApp beta. But the latest beta version has now suggested how this feature will ultimately work for users.

As seen in the shared screenshots of WhatsApp beta by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app will inform users receiving the message about the expiring media feature through a pop-up message. This pop-up message will say, “This media will disappear once you leave this chat” (this media file will disappear as soon as you leave the chat). This message will be visible to the user on the shared media file using the new feature.

Apart from this, in a screenshot shared through the source it can also be seen that as soon as the user receiving the message leaves the chat, a bubble will appear which will say “View once photo expired”. WhatsApp will also offer a dedicated button for this feature, which will help in sending files enabling the expiring media feature, this button can be called View Once.

The reference is a part of the latest WhatsApp beta version, though the feature is not visible to end users. However, the feature is progressing in terms of the information revealed earlier, it can be expected that in future it can be made available to at least beta testers.

Apart from expiring messaging features, it can also bring some new features, which have been part of the app’s plans for some time. Last month, clear evidence of this was seen in WhatsApp beta.

Let me tell you, WhatsApp’s expiring media feature is very much like Instagram, in which the photos and videos sent by users in direct messages disappear automatically.
