Apple may manufacture 25 percent of iPhone handsets in India by 2025: Report

Apple is looking to gradually reduce its dependence on China to manufacture its products due to rising geopolitical tensions and supply chain issues due to the COVID lockdown. Now, a JPMorgan analyst is reportedly claiming that the Cupertino-based company will manufacture about 25 percent of its iPhone handsets in India by 2025. For now, Apple is expected to produce 5 percent of the iPhone 14 smartphones in India by the end of 2022. It may likewise increase production of other Apple products outside of China.

according to recent report good By Reuters, a JP Morgan analyst has claimed that iPhone production in India will increase to around 25 per cent of the total global production by 2025. Apple is believed to be reducing its dependence on China to manufacture its products.

The company began production of iPhone handsets in India in 2017 in association with Wistron, which handles the iPhone SE and iPhone 12. Meanwhile, Foxconn is responsible for assembling the iPhone 13 in India.

Analysts further predict that production of all Apple products, including the Mac, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods, will increase by 25 percent outside China by 2025. It is believed that Taiwanese vendors such as Hon Hai and Pegatron are the key to shifting production to India.

The production of the iPhone 14 has reportedly begun in India and the first batch is expected to be completed by the end of October or early November. By the end of 2022, the Indian production line is expected to account for about 5 percent of the total iPhone 14 production.

In related news, Tata is reportedly in talks with Wistron to set up a joint venture aimed at manufacturing iPhone handsets in India. The deal could increase Winstron’s iPhone manufacturing capabilities to five times its current production.
