WhatsApp for iOS may soon bring users the ability to transfer their chat history from an Android device to an iPhone. Currently, WhatsApp users on an iPhone are only able to migrate their chats from the existing iPhone handset and are not able to transfer their chat history from the Android device. Last year the instant messaging app enabled its users on some Samsung and Google Pixel phones to transfer chats from the iPhone.
according to a report good By WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iOS beta version 22.2.74 has made references about the ability to import chat history from Android devices. A screenshot shared by the source shows that WhatsApp is asking users for permission to import chat history.
The new experience has not yet been made available to beta testers. Therefore, it may take some time for this to become a reality for the end users.
In September last year, WhatsApp released beta version 220.127.116.11 for Android users, which suggested an option to transfer chat history from Android devices to iOS. A similar sign initially appeared on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.21.19.
Transferring chat history may require users to physically connect their Android phone to a newer iOS device using a USB Type-C-to-Lightning cable. WABetaInfo suggested that users may need to install Apple’s Move to iOS app on their Android devices for the migration process.
In August last year, WhatsApp introduced the chat transfer feature from iOS to select Samsung devices. It was expanded to Google Pixel devices in late October. The feature to migrate chats from iOS is also available for devices based on Android 12 out-of-the-box.
