Pokémon Scarlett and Violet will have three unique campaign modes and rideable legendaries. Developer Game Freak confirmed during Pokémon Presents that aired Wednesday that the standard gym-focused story mode can be tackled in any order. In terms of gym battles, players have no linear path, and can challenge any of the 8 new leaders in the game. The other two campaign modes are being kept secret for now. Pokémon Scarlett and Violet launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch on November 18th.
Set in the gorgeous open plains of Palladia, players will enroll their characters in a school as they participate in a treasure hunt, explore abundant nature, and interact with countless characters. Pokémon Scarlett and Violet, like their predecessors, follow the general norm of monster hunting, with the exception of the story mode, which is divided into three parts, allowing ample freedom in exploration.
As shown in the trailer, the latest entry includes two new legendary monsters: Koradon and Miradon. Turning both Pokémon into mounts – or rather survival bikes – allows for faster traversal into the new Paldia area. In addition, they can transform into a motorboat for sailing across the ocean or deploy wings as they take to the skies. The terrain shouldn’t be a problem either, as both monsters seem to be adept at climbing rocks, saving time during the exploration.
Unlike others in the series, Pokémon Scarlett and Violet may be the first entry to offer early access to Legends, which is something to look forward to. This is in addition to the new starter Pokémon: Sprigatito – the Grass Cat, Quaxley – the Water Duckling, and Fukoko – the Fire Croc, which honestly looks like Totodile’s Reskin.
Game Freak also revealed Glasado’s gym leader Grusha, who specializes in Ice-type Pokémon. Official obscurity reveals that he is a former professional snowboarder with a calm disposition who warms up during battle. Most iterations have ice-type trainers reserved for the later stages, but this time, players looking for a challenge can turn to him early in the game.
Pokémon Scarlett and Violet also bring a new Cop mode. Using the Nintendo Switch’s local wireless system, players can connect online with friends or at random to participate in Terra Raid battles and 1v1s. Additionally, with the new Union Circle feature, players can team up with up to 3 other people to adventure together in the same world.
Pokémon Scarlett and Violet is set to release on the Nintendo Switch on November 18th.
