The December 6 India restock of the PS5 – predictably – came and disappeared within minutes. New pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 and PS5 digital editions went live on Monday at 12 p.m., and all stock was gone within a minute on most websites. I managed to add a PS5 Digital Edition bundle to the cart on Amazon, but by the time I hit checkout, it was out of stock. I couldn’t even do much on the Sony Center website, ShopAtSC, where the “Add to Cart” button was back to “Notify Me” within a minute. The Croma had a similar problem, as it had no stock left in less than two minutes. I have never seen a buy button on flipkart, vijay sales or prepaid gamer cards. Flipkart seemed stuck on “coming soon” the whole time. Vijay Sales simply said “Currently Unavailable”.
On Reliance Digital, the Buy button appeared after several minutes, but then when I entered my address pincode, Reliance Digital said: “Product with code ‘491936181’ not found!” I got the same error with multiple pincodes. Game Smash ran into a database connection error / “503 Service Unavailable” error, and its site failed to load at all. And as always, the Games the Shop website struggled to load, even as third-party trackers showed the site was claiming to be stock PS5. If you managed to get to the entire order page on Amazon, Croma, Flipkart, Game Loot, Games The Shop, Prepaid Gamer Card, Reliance Digital, ShopAtSC, or Vijay Sales, let me know in the comments below.
PlayStation 5 review: New Age, Half Jump
The December 6 restock of PS5 ended up being the same story as it has since the India restock began in May. Sony continues to bring very few PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition units to India despite repeated staggering demand. On top of that, none of the online retailing giants in India can build a website that can withstand the PS5 pre-order load. And with demand looming globally in 2022, the situation is not going to get better anytime soon. This was only the seventh pre-order stage for the PS5 Digital Edition, and the tenth for the PS5. There’s no date for the next round of PS5 India pre-orders yet, but another one is possible later this month with a gap in November and early December.
According to Amazon, Sony Center and Vijay Sales, the December PS5 India pre-orders will start shipping on December 15. Expect others — Croma, Flipkart, Game Loot, Games the Shop, prepaid gamer cards, and Reliance Digital — to ship PS5 pre-orders on and around the same date. On a few occasions in the past, online retailers have shipped PlayStation orders before the given date, so if you’re lucky, you might get it earlier than the promised date. Of course, the delivery date will also depend on whether the retailers take bookings beyond their capacity. Some platforms have also been known to cancel or delay PS5 pre-orders.
All PS5 restocks for December 6th are gone for now, but you can keep an eye on the nine websites above and register for notifications if you’d like. You might have better luck checking out your nearest game store though. Sony India has also set up a helpline at 1800-103-7799 to help PlayStation fans find local retailers across India.
