Reliance Jio’s entry into India’s already congested telecom market is expected to shake things up, and that’s an understatement. The tariff and rollout plans of Reliance Jio were announced by Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company’s AGM in Mumbai on Thursday. He unveiled the much awaited 4G service of Reliance Jio with a bouquet of offers and services.
The biggest highlight, which grabbed everyone’s attention during the launch, was Reliance Jio’s ‘free voice calls’, even on roaming. Yes, you read that right. Mukesh Ambani revealed that there will be no charges while making calls anywhere in India, and users will only pay for mobile data.

Breaking silence on Reliance Jio’s tariff plans, Ambani said that the company’s simple and clean tariff plans start from pocket-friendly one-day internet plan, priced at Rs. 19, which gives you 100MB of usable data, plus SMS (up to a limit of 100 per day as per TRAI’s rules) along with unlimited calling (both voice and VoLTE, even while roaming). Thousands of people queued up in the country till Thursday to take Jio’s free SIM with the company’s ‘Jio Preview Offer’. As we mentioned, for now, Jio SIM was only available to users from a handful of OEMs. From this Monday, Reliance Jio will be available to anyone and the SIM will work on all available handsets that support VoLTE. Under the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’, all new and existing users are entitled to enjoy free calling, messaging and data services till December 31.

Getting Reliance Jio Sim Card
Prior to its official launch, Reliance Jio SIM cards were available at Reliance-owned digital stores, Digital Express and Digital Express Mini stores across the country. Documents you will need to get Reliance Jio SIM card
Along with the eKYC process, you need to present your Aadhar card to get instant activation. Visit any of the Reliance-owned stores mentioned above with your Aadhar card. The Aadhaar card serves as both your address proof and identity proof, but if you do not have one, you will need to submit other documents for these proofs, a list of which can be found on the website. Together, you will need two passport size photographs. You will get Reliance Jio SIM card as soon as you complete the verification process. Remember to carry your original documents for verification along with the photocopies you submit, and ensure that the photographs are recent.
Activating Your Reliance Jio Sim Card
After receiving the SIM card, you will be prompted to follow the steps sent by the company to your registered email address. Since the activation and billing process is completely online, you can get the receipt through your email and SMS as well. Reliance Jio will also tele-verify your phone number to complete the entire activation and verification process.
To activate VoLTE, the way you make a voice call on the Reliance Jio network, you have to call 1977. The tele-verification process will be done on the same call. Don’t forget to keep your Jio SIM purchase bill and other documents ready in advance.
