How to Disable Notifications in Google Chrome

Desktop notifications are one of the best features of modern browsers. They show previews of emails, soccer scores or even instant messages, so you can take a quick look at updates without leaving the work you’re doing. But it can be a bit overwhelming, especially when it involves spam and ads. You should disable Google Chrome notifications if too many sites have started sending notifications, or if you need to turn off all the noise. To do so is quite simple:

  1. Open the Google Chrome Settings page. you can either type chrome://settings hit more in the address bar enter or click hamburger icon top right > Adjustment,

  2. scroll down and click show advanced settings,

  3. below privacyClick content settings…,

  4. scroll down Notifications,

  5. to select Do not allow any site to show desktop notifications,

  6. If you want to allow certain websites to show notifications, you can click Ask when a site wants to show desktop notifications, Now sites will only show notifications if you allow them.

  7. Click Handle exceptions… To see a list of sites that you have allowed notifications for. press x to the right of any of these URLs to prevent the site from sending notifications.


This method gets rid of desktop notifications from websites. But an app or extension can still send notifications. To disable notifications from individual Chrome apps or extensions, follow these steps.

Windows 7 and 8

  1. tap Windows Key + D Or go to Desktop.

  2. left click bell shaped Notifications icon in Chrome notification bar bottom-right side of the screen. If it’s not there, click up arrow icon at the beginning of notification bar, After you see the bell, left-click on it.

  3. Click on the gear icon.

  4. Uncheck the apps or extensions you don’t want notifications from.



  1. In the system menu bar, click on the bell icon.

  2. Click on the gear icon.

  3. Uncheck the apps or extensions you don’t want notifications from.

If you want to disable all Chrome notifications, there is an easy way to do so. If you’re done and just want a temporary break, you can instead right-click the bell-shaped Chrome notification icon and click do not disturb, It turns off all notifications. you can also click do not disturb for an hour either don’t bother for a day If you just want a short break from notifications.

This next method will permanently stop all notifications including emails and messages. If you need these, don’t do it. If you’re sure you need to get rid of all Chrome notifications, read on.

Windows 7 or 8

  1. tap Windows Key + D Or go to Desktop.

  2. press up arrow icon at the beginning of notification bar bottom-right side of the screen.

  3. Click Customize…,

  4. scroll down Google Chrome,

  5. In the drop-down menu, select hide icon and notifications,

  6. Click Ok,


  1. Click chrome from the top menu bar.

  2. Click hide notifications icon from the drop-down menu.
