How to Turn Off and On iPhone, iPad with a Damaged Power Button

If you’re an iPhone or iPad user, you might not realize how much of your phone’s power you’re using. The Home button is essential for navigating through your device, and using the volume button and the mute switch on the side is pretty obvious too, but if your power button stops working, you can’t turn off your phone – Or can’t turn back on again for that matter.

It is also very easy to damage it with external factors such as excess moisture or dust, which can cause it to stop working. You can get by without having to switch off the iOS device, but it’s always good to be able to turn off the phone when needed. These simple steps to switch off the device without touching the power button can really come in handy.

  1. Open Adjustment,

  2. go for General > Accessibility,

  3. Scroll down to the section labeled Mutual action tap more assistive Touch,

  4. On the next screen, toggle assistive Touch In green condition.

  5. A white circle with a gray box will appear on the screen. Tap to expand this circle to a larger box on the screen.

  6. tap Device,

  7. hold on lock screen until a red and white power icon appears on the screen with the text slide to power off next to it.

  8. Slide the Power icon to the right to turn off the iPhone or iPad.

It takes care of turning off the device, but what do you do if you want to turn it back on? How else can you switch on an iOS device if the power button is damaged? The answer is – charge the device. Yes, just connect it to a power socket or a USB port on a computer. The device will turn back on in a few seconds. You can disconnect the charger or USB cable as soon as the white screen with the Apple logo appears.
