Airtel offering 1GB high-speed data, voice calling benefits as free trial for inactive users: Report

Airtel seems to have started offering 1GB of high-speed data as well as incoming and outgoing calls to its prepaid users who haven’t recharged their accounts. The new development is a follow-up to an earlier update, as a part of which the New Delhi-based telco was offering users 1GB high-speed data allotment on recharge of a low-value prepaid plan with Rs. 48 and Rs. 49 pack. Airtel’s latest attempt to offer free benefits on a trial basis – along with its previous move – could help it retain its customers and give tough competition to Reliance Jio.

onlytech reports Airtel is informing eligible users about the new test by sending an SMS message. A screenshot of the message has been shared which highlights the free incoming and outgoing calls as well as 1GB of high-speed data on the three-day trial. It also asks users to recharge their account with unlimited packs to get more benefits.

One of the users who reportedly got free data and voice calling benefits from the operator did not recharge the account for more than a month. However, there is no clarity on the criteria for selecting users for benefits. It is also unclear whether Airtel is offering the free trial in select circles or on a pan-India basis.

Gadgets 360 has reached out to Airtel for more information and will update this space when the company responds.

In late July, Airtel was seen offering an additional 1GB of high-speed data access for three days to users recharging with Rs. 48 and Rs. 49 prepaid plan. This appears to be similar to Jio’s additional data offering that it provided some time back.
