WhatsApp Group Polls Feature Spotted in Development on Latest iOS Beta

According to a popular WhatsApp feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that can allow users to create polls on group chats. The world’s most widely used messaging service is currently working on some features that are yet to be offered to beta testers, including the ability to react to specific messages with emoji. Group polls are currently available in other messaging services like Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Threema, and may eventually make their way to an upcoming version of WhatsApp.

As per the image shared by WABetaInfo, on opting to add a new group poll, WhatsApp will ask a user to enter a question to vote. As the feature is still under development, it is currently unclear whether WhatsApp will ask users to add voting options at a later stage, whether group admins will be able to edit voting options, and whether there will be a voting deadline. , or how many choice options can be added.

According to the feature tracker, like messages, attachments and calls made on WhatsApp, the new group poll feature should also be protected by end-to-end encryption. This should ensure that only group participants can vote and view results. While the feature has been spotted on WhatsApp for iOS, it should eventually make its way to WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp desktop as well.

As mentioned earlier, messaging services such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Threema currently offer the ability to add group polls, allowing users to quickly make decisions within a group. Group polls can also help de-clutter group chat and organize answers to questions – such as planning a team or choosing from a variety of options for an venue. At the moment it is not clear when WhatsApp will finally roll out this feature for the users. This feature may undergo changes during development before being released to all users.
