iPhone 14 Review: Apple unveiled the iPhone 14 along with the iPhone 14 Pro earlier this month. The iPhone 14 Pro was a big update with a new chipset and dynamic islands, but the iPhone 14 didn’t get much new. This latest device comes with the same A15 Bionic chipset as its predecessor, the iPhone 13. Along with this, the look of iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 also seems almost identical. In India, the iPhone 14 has been launched at a starting price of Rs 79,990 for the base 128GB model. Two other variants 256GB and 512GB have been launched for Rs 89,900 and Rs 1,09,900 respectively. However, as part of the launch offer, Apple is offering an instant cashback of up to Rs 6,000 on purchases made with HDFC credit cards.
iPhone 14 Design Review
iThe Phone 14 feels great in your hands and the design feels premium and expensive. Apple continues to use its toughened ceramic shield on the front, aluminum frame, and water resistance in the iPhone 14. With the iPhone 14, the back panel can be removed individually for less expensive repairs. From a usability point of view, the flat edges make the iPhone 14 easier to hold and the glass back design is much more attractive. Interestingly, the iPhone 14 is much easier to repair than other recent models. The iPhone comes in 14 new color options, including – Blue, Purple, Midnight, Starlight and (PRODUCT) RED. It has the same boxy design as the iPhone 13 and includes a similar looking camera module with a slanted lens.
iPhone 14 Display Review
The extra display space of the iPhone 14 offers a lot of benefits that a daily user will appreciate. The smaller 5.4-inch display on the iPhone 13 Mini is disappointing. Secondly, the iPhone 14’s 6.1-inch display is useful for handheld gaming as it will be much easier to reach the controls with your fingers. It’s also better to reach for the buttons on the bottom corner of the iPhone 14 than on the iPhone 13 Mini. In Books, it’s two to three extra paragraphs, which means less page turn. Typing on the keyboard on the iPhone 14 is much better and the big buttons are very helpful. Apple iPhone 14 has a bigger display, but there is no change in visual quality. There’s also no always-on display on the iPhone 14, which is currently reserved for the high-end iPhone 14 Pro. The notch at the top of the screen is still a part of the design, just like the iPhone 13. Apple put the 60Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 14, the same as the iPhone 13 or iPhone 12. Apple did not put 120Hz refresh rate on the screen of the iPhone 14, leaving users quite disappointed.
iPhone 14 Performance Review
The performance of the iPhone 14 is much better in handling heavy apps or for fast multitasking. However, this is not much of a difference compared to the predecessor model. The iPhone 14 boasts of the flagship-level performance that one would expect from an iPhone. As a flagship phone, it is easy to handle daily tasks like browsing, video streaming and even gaming. So far, we haven’t experienced any lag while using it for various tasks. The latest smartphone is also powered by the A15 Bionic chipset that powers the iPhone 13. This is why there is no gain in performance unexpectedly. The difference is that the iPhone 14 has a version with additional GPU cores (the same one found on the iPhone 13 Pro Max). Apple’s latest iOS 16 comes preloaded when you buy an iPhone 14. iOS has a number of new features, including the ability to customize the lock screen with widgets.
iPhone 14 Camera Review
The iPhone 14 still comes with a dual-lens camera system, with a 12-megapixel sensor at both the main and ultra-wide which might look exactly the same as the iPhone 13. However, the main camera of the iPhone 14 actually features a larger sensor and a new lens with a faster f1.5 aperture than the iPhone 13. With this new sensor you will notice a lot of improvement in low light performance and you can clearly see the difference in camera shots (below). Plus photos are detailed, sharp and well balanced in good light. The iPhone 14’s camera shoots amazing video, which is consistently rated highly among smartphones. The selfie camera with autofocus delivers better results in terms of detail and color reliability. Apple is also introducing an Action Mode for video that offers gimbal-like stabilization. It is a software-based solution that lets you capture video even when you have trembling hands. The hardware combined with Apple’s new “Photonic Engine” does a great job at improving image quality, especially when taking photos in low light. The selfie camera with autofocus on the iPhone 14 delivers better results in terms of detail and color reliability.
iPhone 14 Battery Review
The iPhone 14 comes with a longer battery life than all its predecessor models. This is one of the big reasons why people are getting attracted towards this latest smartphone. The biggest change I felt after using the iPhone 14 compared to the iPhone 13 is its battery. It also supports fast charging and Qi wireless charging. If you’re switching from the iPhone XR or the iPhone 12 mini, the larger iPhone 14 may be worth more, as it has a bigger battery. On battery test, it lasted for around 15 hours. This means that the phone can make it from the morning of the first day to the morning of the next day.
