Cyberpunk Edgerunners Trailer: Netflix anime series takes us back to the world of Cyberpunk 2077

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer is here. On Monday, Netflix unveiled a full-length trailer for the upcoming anime series that is set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. This is Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red’s first collaboration with the animation studio. Japanese company Studio Trigger pioneered Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which included 10 standalone original episodes in Season 1. The anime studio was previously responsible for shows such as Guren Lagan and Kill la Kill, and brings with it their vibrant art style. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premieres exclusively on Netflix this September.

The Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer begins with David being wired into a VR headset, playing some kind of video game or simulation. After his mother’s death, he asks to plug the game chip inside, giving him special powers that allow him to trance past enemies.

It is also implied that the fight sequences will take place in a simulation, although the editing in the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer can be confusing. As he joins a squad of edgerunners, we are treated to the rest of the main characters, starting with Maine, who acts as the muscle of the group. Dorio is a shotgun expert, Kiwi is an android proficient in technology, there’s the short-fused Rebecca and Wizard Pillar, and Lucy, who, for now, represents the love interest.

It is also mentioned that in the Netflix show, David attends a school for upper-class citizens, coming from a poor neighborhood. This is depicted in a brief shot from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer, where his mother says, “You have to be an elite and get to the top floor in Arasaka Tower,” with tears in her eyes.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has an all-Japanese cast: Ken, Aoi Yuki, Hiroki Tochi, Michiko Kaiden, Takako Honda, Wataru Takagi, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Kazuhiko Inoue, Yurika Hino and Kenjiro Tsuda. Studio Trigger is also known for Little Witch Academia, which launched as a Kickstarter project in 2013, and now has two seasons – both available on Netflix India.

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk 2077 has grown beyond its original broken state through regular patches, fresh content, and appropriate community feedback.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will release exclusively on Netflix in September.
