Chris Rock breaks silence on Will Smith’s ‘hostage’ apology video

Comic Chris Rock tore up a video of Will Smith apologizing for slapping him at the Oscars earlier this year.

“Fuck your hostage video,” The Rock said during a weekend gig at London’s O2 Arena, according to the deadline,

Smith slaps Rock after making a comic joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has a shaved head due to a hair loss condition called alopecia.

“Jada, I love you,” Rock said from the stage during the Oscars. “‘Gi Gen 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”

In response, Will Smith marched on stage, slapped The Rock and then returned to his seat and shouted: “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”

In July, Smith released a video apologizing.

“So, I’ll tell you, Chris, I apologize to you,” said Smith. “My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”

“There’s no part of me that thinks this was the right way to behave in that moment,” Smith said. “There’s no part of me that thinks this is the best way to handle feelings of disrespect or humiliation.”

The Rock was not only buying it, but he also defended his joke.

“Did that shit hurt?” Dave Chappelle, who was present at the event in London, asked The Rock, Per the Guardian,

The Rock replied: “Goddamn right… the motherfucker hit me over a bullshit joke – the best joke I ever told.”

Smith, who won the Best Actor award that night, resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy also banned him from the Oscars for 10 years.
