DOJ sues Trump aide Peter Navarro for alleged unofficial email account

NEW YORK (AP) — The Justice Department filed suit against Peter Navarro on Wednesday, claiming that a former Donald Trump adviser used an unofficial email account while working at the White House and wrongly accessed the president’s records. retained.

Civil Affairs alleges that by using an unofficial email account, Navarro failed to hand over the president’s records to the National Archives and Records Administration.

The Justice Department is asking a federal judge for an order “authorizing the recovery of any presidential records in Mr. Navarro’s possession, custody, and/or control.” The suit also seeks unspecified damages.

“Mr. Navarro is wrongly maintaining presidential records that are property of the United States, and which are part of the permanent historical record of the prior administration,” the suit states.

A lawyer representing Navarro in the criminal case did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment about the civil case.
