Jones is facing trial in Austin, Texas — where his conspiracy outlet Infowars is based — to determine how much money he will eventually have to pay to parents Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose son was killed in the shooting in which 20 Children and six adults were killed. , For years, Jones and others associated with him have lied that the shooting was fake.

Heslin made it clear in court Friday that he is not after Jones’ money, but hitting it in his wallet may be the only way to stop his lies.

“I believe that’s the only way to stop it, to stop it,” Heslin said. “There has to be a strong deterrent to stop what is being said.”

Heslin described his son as an “energetic” child who loved animals and helped others. shooting day, Jesse escorts his classmates to a safe place and possibly saves lives, Jones was not in court during Heslin’s testimony.

“It’s outrageous,” Heslin told the jury of Jones’ absence in court. “I think it’s a cowardice act by Alex Jones not to face me in this courtroom. He doesn’t have the guts to sit down and face me.”

Heslin described the harassment he has faced over the years, including an incident he described as “a few years ago” in which his house and vehicles were shot down.

“I fear for my life, for my safety, for the safety of my family,” Heslin said. He and Lewis had private security with him as the test, now in his second week, plays outside.

In his testimony on Friday, Lewis described the Christmas morning after the shooting when a man went home to take pictures. Lewis said she now has a gun for protection from those who might try to harm her surviving son.

Jones’ attorney, Andino Renal, told Heslin in his interrogation that the Sandy Hook lie did not originate with Jones. Heslin said that even if it were true, it was Jones’ huge platform that allowed the lies to spread.

Heslin told the court, “Alex is the one who lit the match and set it on fire.” “Others were bringing wood to keep him running. It’s because Alex has such a huge platform.”

Plaintiffs’ attorneys are seeking $150 million in damages.
