“Her husband was torturing her for years demanding a son. But she said that she would not leave him as she could not raise her two daughters. We get it,” said the father of Mandeep Kaur, a 30-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh who died by suicide in the US on August 4 in a video.
In the video going viral, she says in Punjabi, ‘It’s been eight years. I can’t beat everyday anymore… Papa, forgive me. I’m gonna die.”
His family in UP’s Bijnor district is now scared for their two daughters aged 6 and 4 and want them to be snatched away from their father Ranjodhbir Singh Sandhu, whose family is also from Bijnor. “We should get his custody. I will raise her like a mother,” her younger sister Kuldeep Kaur told NDTV today.
Her father Jaspal Singh has filed a case of abetment to suicide against the husband at the police station here and has also named his parents who live in a nearby village. “In New York, our relatives are talking to the police,” he said, asking the Indian government to help.

The father said that the family knew about the abuse from the very beginning. “Soon after the marriage, he started torturing her. It got worse after giving birth to a daughter; And worse after another daughter.”
Once the family went to the police. “We filed a case in New York a few years ago, when she sent me a video showing him hitting her. But then she said she didn’t want further action. She told the court that she forgave him. “
“When he told us that he was worried for his daughters, we understood. We were also worried, wondering how she would raise the children alone. where will she go? Like him, we also thought that the husband should get another chance. But he soon started torturing her again,” he said.
“Once he told me I shouldn’t interfere. I got upset and told him not to include me anymore. He hasn’t told me much since then,” she said.
From farmer families, Mandeep Kaur and Ranjodhbir Singh were married in 2015. He was a trucker in America, and she moved there three years later. Following her death, there has yet to be a response from the husband or his family, and there has been no confirmation of legal action in the US.
Mandeep Kaur’s family alleged that they demanded Rs 50 lakh for the upbringing of the daughters. The father said, “He told her that he could hardly pay the loan for his truck, so he should get money for the expenses of the daughters.”
Her sister said, “I couldn’t believe she could do this even after watching the video. We found out at 5.30 am that she was dead. We didn’t know what to do. We felt helpless.” Was doing.”
“I want her husband to get the harshest punishment possible. He should get the death penalty. I appeal to the Government of India to help us get justice.”
Kaur’s elder brother Sandeep Singh alleged, “Even her in-laws kept calling her and demanding the boy. They were scared when we filed the case in New York, but they begged her to help her get away. They entered his mind. ,
