People are being airlifted to avoid Kentucky floods

Residents of eastern Kentucky are being airlifted to safety after being hit by the worst flooding in decades.

National Guard personnel are using helicopters to rescue the stranded people.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said rescue operations were ongoing and he expected emergency teams to “find bodies for weeks”.

President Joe Biden has declared the floods “a major disaster” and ordered federal aid to help local rescuers.
